Happy Bank Holiday Monday!
It’s been an eventful weekend of exploring the City and finally ticking off a couple of new food places on our ‘places to eat’ list, both of which exceeded our amateur foodie expectations.
The first is La Bodega Negra Cafe, a Mexican street food restaurant in Soho. It has been on my list for the longest time and I am so glad that we finally got the chance to check it out, with good company too! I haven’t tried too many burritos in London but the Soft Shell Crab Burrito, part of their new menu, is one of the best I’ve had. I’m quite simple when it comes to restaurants: good food and good atmosphere and this had both.
Next up is Lanka, a French patisserie in Finchley, specialising in home-made French style cakes and Ceylon teas. Seating is limited in the shop but we were lucky enough to be seated without too long of a wait on the day. We ordered three cakes between the two of us: Strawberry Tart, Green Tea Tart and Green Tea and Azuki Pudding. Honestly, all three were amazing but the Green Tea and Azuki Pudding was just on another level; it was dense but in no way dry, just sweet enough and the taste of green tea and azuki were perfectly balanced. Can I add that I have a little obsession with everything rose flavoured/scented right now? So, of course I had to order a pot of their Green Tea Rose Petal tea to go with the cakes and it did not disappoint either.
Taking advantage of the warm weather this weekend, I paired a white crop top with a pair of denim shorts dungarees for a short visit to Holland Park. The subtle frills and broderie detail of the crop top adds a feminine touch to the outfit and complements the sandals to complete the look.
